Message from Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik
As you may have recently learned, procedural errors at our joint Hyundai/Kia testing operations overstated the fuel economy ratings for approximately 900,000
Hyundai and Kia vehicles sold between 2010 and 2012. With the appropriate corrections in place, the 2012 Hyundai/Kia fleet fuel economy level is reduced by an average of 3%.
We sincerely apologize for these errors, and our top priority is to make things right for you.
In response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, we have corrected the test processes. At the same time, we have put in place a program to reimburse owners of affected vehicles for additional fuel costs incurred to date, and in the future.
If you are a past or current Hyundai or Kia owner, we encourage you to take the following steps:
- Log on to www.HyundaiMPGinfo.com or www.KiaMPGinfo.com to determine if your vehicle is affected by the fuel economy rating change.
- If your vehicle qualifies, use the website tool to register and get an estimate of your reimbursement amount, which will be based on the model you own, your odometer reading, and the average gas price in your area. In addition, as an acknowledgement of the inconvenience this may cause, we will add an extra 15% to your reimbursement amount.
- Finally, at your convenience, visit your dealer who will verify your current odometer reading and we will arrange for a debit card to be sent to you.
This reimbursement program will continue for owners who purchased their vehicles prior to November 3nd, for as long as they own their vehicle.
All of us at Hyundai and Kia value our owners, first and foremost. We work hard to be deserving of your trust, and appreciate the opportunity to make this right for you.
